Believe it or not, there was a time when we, the founders of Ichchhapuron Gifts, were teachers. Fulfilling jobs that kept us away from our parents. We lived scattered across cities and continents.
One time I wanted to send a gift to my parents through a then existing gift service. I sent them fish and sweets. Something I knew my parents would’ve loved receiving. To my utter dismay, both the gifts reached in black plastic bags.
Now, maybe it meant nothing, but we associate black plastic bags with trash bags and dirty things. The fish looked like it was cut and brought directly from the fish market. It wouldn’t have been a problem except that it was meant to be a gift. I wanted the fish to be clean and for the things to not be sent in a flimsy black plastic bag on an occasion that’s meant to be happy.
When one of us moved to Kolkata, we decided that the only way we could be absolutely satisfied with the gifts we sent was if we sent them ourselves. We soon realised that that’s what a lot of people sending gifts to Kolkata were also feeling- the absence of understanding and emotion in the existing gift services. These things became the pillars of our gift service.
